The Software Engineering Manager is responsible for the planning, design, development, and release of application and interface software protection.



  • Receives assignments in the form of objectives and establishes goals to meet the objectives.
  • Work is reviewed and measured based on meeting objectives and schedules.
  • Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of a situation or data requires evaluation of identifiable factors.
  • Exercises judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
  • Develops and administers budgets, schedules, and performance objectives.
  • Manages the coordination of the activities in a department.
  • Establishes standards for Interface Development, localization, and GUI development.
  • Manages the Interface development team.
  • Establishes and maintains Interface development policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Coordinates Interface development priorities worldwide.
  • Maintains a list of Rainbow mainstream languages that are used for interface releases.
  • Plans and purchases compilers, manages source control files, and maintains tool servers.
  • Maintains Interface statistics to provide visibility on interface production for future planning.
  • Publishes Interface status and other technical information monthly for worldwide distribution.
  • Manages designated enhancements of existing products through the whole software cycle from requirements through release according to the engineering procedures.
  • Responsible for continual improvement of software-related processes throughout the organization based on the SEI’s Software Capability Maturity Model.
  • Develops GUI programs and localizes software programs for designated countries.
  • Creates software development plans and schedules.
  • Trains Technical Support group on product releases.
  • Staffs and trains engineers for Software Applications group to meet the company’s needs.
  • Reviews the performance of the Application team.
  • Maintains and generates Master CD’ROM for all software releases.
  • Provides technical assistance to others on selected area of expertise.
  • Participates in company wide committees to improve Rainbow.
  • Revises manual, technical notes, and application notes for the documentation department.
  • Acts as liaison between Engineering and MIS.


Education & Training

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent is essential.



Specialized Knowledge & Skills

    • Minimum of two (2) years progressive management experience is essential. 


  • Minimum five (5) years experience as a software developer is required.
  • Excellent collaborative and interpersonal skills at all levels are essential.
  • Excellent organizational skills are essential.
  • Excellent written communication skills are essential.
  • Knowledge of compilers, linkers, DLL, build process, and internal language structures is essential.
  • Excellent leadership skills are essential.
  • Must be knowledgeable in many of the following PC-based computing platforms: PC/Windows9X, PC/Windows NT/2000/XP, UNIX, Linux, Macintosh
  • Experience with software requirements analysis, software architectural design, software detail design is required.
  • Experience with multiple areas of software technology including GUI development and application development is required.
  • Must be familiar with software development standards and practices.
