    The Business Development Department of SME is currently seeking a Business Development Manager in New York, NY.

    SME is a strategic brand development agency with over 29 years' legacy in building impactful, customized solutions for the world's leading sports and entertainment, college sports and higher education brands. Our client list includes: Major League Baseball Players Association, Churchill Downs/Kentucky Derby, Big South Conference, US Youth Soccer, Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, Manhattan College, Texas A&M University-San Antonio and Purdue University Fort Wayne.

    As our Business Development Manager, you’ll be an essential part of the business development process, so we can continue to secure future work in an efficient manner as we grow our agency. At SME, a successful Business Development Manager will create a process by which high-quality winning proposals and pitches are tracked, prepared and submitted to potential clients. In addition, you’ll also play a key role in the ongoing marketing of the agency including the cultivation of client relationships, development of marketing materials/promotional content, management of new business outreach and attendance at industry events. This position will report directly to SME’s Director, Business Development.

    Responsibilities

    • Manage Business Development Pipeline
      • Manage and maintain the agency’s Business Development Pipeline
      • Prepare regularly reports on the status of the Business Development Pipeline and marketing/outreach activities for Director, Business Development and Managing Director
      • Coordinate follow up activities and required actions for all prospects within Business Development Pipeline to help cultivate new client relationships
    • Track and plan proposal submissions
      • Monitor RFP web sites and other business opportunity sites for relevant RFPs
      • Circulate relevant RFPs to Director, Business Development and Managing Director
      • Create and manage internal proposal schedule
      • Track and meet submission deadlines
    • Manage proposal submissions
      • Work with senior leadership to develop RFP response strategy
      • Submit formal questions/receive answers
      • Complete require forms and obtain required paperwork for submissions
      • Manage proposal contributions from SME staff members (including creative needs)
      • Write and craft proposals based on the requirements outlined within the RFP
      • Create a bank of materials for boilerplate proposal sections to streamline RFP process
    • Manage agency new business pitches
      • Work with senior leadership to develop pitch strategy and pitch team
      • Manage pitch teams to prep for pitch meetings (conduct background research, coordinate calls, refine approach, build pitch presentations)
      • Participate in client pitches
    • Support development and execution of SME’s Marketing Plan
      • Contribute to the planning and execution of the SME’s Marketing Plan alongside the Marketing Manager and under the guidance of the Director, Business Development
      • Coordinate agency outreach with Marketing Manager to ensure marketing materials are created and delivered to meet deadlines as outlined within SME’s Marketing Plan
      • Coordinate and contribute to the development of original content and thought leadership pieces to help maintain SME’s position as a leading strategic brand development agency for sports and entertainment, college sports and higher education brands
      • Attend industry events and conferences as a representative of SME

    Qualifications

    • 3+ years of relevant experience
    • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field
    • Organized with strong attention to detail
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to manage various SME internal teams and discipline to perform a variety of tasks
    • Ability to work under tight deadlines and prioritize projects
    • Experience in proposal writing and pitch development a big plus
    • Industrious problem solver with strong project management skills
    • Willingness and desire to work independently
